Rocket Batteries
The Little Known Weapons of the Civil War
The Third persona of our reenactors (yes, we have many personas) is a work in progress. Our members Norm Konnerup and Robert Konnerup began researching Rocket Batteries when they came across a picture of the Hale Rocket Launcher. From this single picture, Norm was able to recreate the launcher and a mock up of a Type 1 Spin Stabilized Rocket.And so was born our third persona, the 74th Pennsylvania, Company G, Rocket Battery.
We are currently researching ways to recreate the effects of the rocket launcher, both with and without live fire. We greatly appreciate our friends of the 74th Pennsylvania reenacting company for giving us much needed information and plans. We plan to field a Rocket Battery at a reenactment event, hopefully in the near future and are currently working with our parent organization, the WCWA, to make this possible.
