Civil War Preservation Trust - www.civilwar.org
The Sharpshooters believe in the mission of the Civil War Preservation Trust, which seeks to preserve historic sites of significant to the American Civil War and to educate about the civil war.The Sharpshooters are currently involved in the "Don't Gamble with Gettysburg" campaign to stop development of a 3,000-5,000 slot casino and 225 room hotel which would be a few miles from protected Gettysburg battle sites and potentially bring hundreds of thousands of additional cars to Gettysburg every year.
The No Casino Gettysburg group (www.nocasinogettysburg.com) has information about the issue, including the developer's impact statement, which argues that a casino will bring additional tourists to the Gettysburg park, that gambling revenue may support historic preservation, that the negative connotations associated with casinos and gambling have no proven connection, and that the facility will be virtually unnoticeable from the Gettysburg park. However, it is generally agreed that additional cars and people will destroy the santicity of this treasured place, so symbolic of the horror of the Civil War.
Gettysburg doesn't need more tourists, it needs more people who are passionate about history and the responsibility of our nation to never forget what the men and women of the civil war sacrificed and fought for.
Support of battlefield preservation and the protection of Gettysburg is appreciated by our Sharpshooters. Feel free to send us a Brag email if you help out, too!

Fort Hoskins - Sheridan House Rescue - www.forthoskins.com
Fort Hoskins was established in Oregon in 1865. After the civil war, the all the buildings on the grounds of the fort were sold or demolished. It was discovered that one building remaining intact, just a few miles away, used as a home. This building was an officer's house, built under the direction of Phil Sheridan and is the only intact example of an Oregon Fort building today. The owners of the house donated the building back to Fort Hoskins. Now the house needs moved. The Sharpshooters, along with several other groups of supporters, are helping to raise funds and awareness of this project. This is truly a significant peice of Oregon history, and it needs preservation.

Oregon Military Museum - www.siftview.com/~ormilmuseum/
The Sharpshooters have also found a community partner in the Oregon Military Museum, located on the Camp Withycombe National Guard base. The Oregon Military Museum boasts the largest and most complete collection of firearms and other Oregon military artifacts in the Western United States. The Sharpshooters volunteer once a month with key projects. Of utmost importance is keeping the museum up to the codes required of a museum, a site for historic preservation and a National Guard institution. The museum also needs to make arrangements for a new building, better preservation of the collections, and better displays of the collections.

American Diabetes Association - www.diabetes.org
Diabetes is a chronic disease with no cure. Children effected by Type I diabetes, their bodies unable to produce insuline, face a lifetime of challenges through no fault of their own. Type II diabetes, the result of a body not able to produce the enough insulin, also requires drastic life changes. 20.8 million American children and adults have Type I or Type II diabetes and an additional 41 million are at risk for Type II diabetes. The Sharpshooters are helping the American Diabetes Association find a cure, and to help prevent this disease, by walking in the 2006 Walk for Diabetes on May 6, 2006.

March of Dimes - www.marchofdimes.com
The March of Dimes has supported finding cures for childhood tragedies since their foundation in 1938 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Since finding a cure for Polio, cases have dropped to just 480 world-wide in 2001.Today the primary focus of the March of Dimes is to prevent premature birth. 1 in 8 babies are born too soon, over half of those from unknown causes. Premature birth is often associated with struggle for life and lasting health issues.
The Sharpshooters are helping the March of Dimes save the lives of babies by joining in the Walk America Campaign, on April 29, 2006.
