How do I Get Involved?

To get involved in Living History, you must simply decide that this is something you want to try. The Enlistment page talks about how to join our club, but before you are ready to do that you must decide that you want to experience living history for yourself.

Once you have decided you want to get involved, ask you family or close friends if they want to get involved, too. Living history is usually a lot more fun when the whole family is participating. Everyone can be involved in reenacting, regardless of age, ability or background. Let us know your situation and we will talk about options to get the most out of reenacting. We do our best to make your living history experience great, but we can't anticipate every need.

To begin reenacting, you will need to pick an event to go to. Loaner gear is available if requested aheaded of time, including some civilian gear. Keep in touch with our captains and let us help you get the most out of your first event.

You do not need to commit to attending a specific number of events or your role in reenacting until after your first event. Some people begin reenacting the civilian life only to find that the military life is something they want to be involved in. Reenactors typically alter their persona every few years - some change personas multiple times in the course of a day!

For your first reenactment, after you've let our captains know you will be attending at what gear you think you will need, you should bring any gear you've already collected, a packed lunch and plan to stay in the park the whole day. After hours (after 6pm) the atmosphere in the reenactment relaxes, but the fun continues with music, fireside stories and sometimes dances and other activities.

Both our military and civilian camps welcome visitors and happily share our shade with our guests.

After your first event, you will have time to decide what role you want to play and what gear you will want to purchase. As a new reenactor, you are encouraged to buy your initial clothing, uniform and gear during your first year as you begin to learn about yourself as a reenactor. Larger purchases such as rifles and tents, are better saved for the second and third year of reenacting.

There is space for modern camping, usually within a half a mile of the reenactment. This is convenient for new reenactors, but we encourage you to spend as much time getting involved in the event as possible - which is why we recommend a packed lunch for during the day.

The most important thing to remember is to ask questions. We were all new to reenacting as some point, and want to help you.
